Veteran war correspondent and award-winning author Scott Anderson will give a series of talks at Texas State University-San Marcos Oct. 16-17.

Anderson will speak at the Alkek Library on the Texas State campus 3 p.m. Oct. 16. He will also speak at the Katherine Anne Porter House, 508 W. Center Street in Kyle, Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public.

Anderson has reported from Beirut, Northern Ireland, Chechnya, Israel, Sudan, Sarajevo, El Salvador and Iraq. He is a contributing writer for the New York Times Magazine, and his work has appeared in Vanity Fair, Esquire, Harper's, Outside, and National Geographic. He is the author of the novels Triage and Moonlight Hotel, the nonfiction book The Man Who Tried to Save the World: The Life and Mysterious Disappearance of Fred Cuny, and, with his brother Jon Lee Anderson, War Zones. Most recently, he collaborated with photographer Paolo Pellegrin on Double Blind: Lebanon Conflict 2006 about the recent war between Israel and Lebanon, where both Anderson and Pellegrin were reporting.

A film based on Triage, starring Colin Ferrell and Christopher Lee, will be released in 2009. Another film starring Richard Gere and Terrence Howard, The Hunting Party, about a reporter searching for a Bosnian war criminal was loosely based on an article Anderson wrote for Esquire.

The event is cosponsored by the Therese Kayser Lindsey Reading Series and the Texas State Department of English. For additional information, contact Michael Noll at (512) 268-6637.
