Philosophy Dialogue Series features ‘Sophists and Sages’

The fall 2007 Philosophy Dialogue Series at Texas State University-San Marcos continues through the week of Oct. 15-19 with “Thirty Years of Philosophy at Texas State,” in room PSY 132.

On Oct. 15 at 1:30 p.m. a memorial service will be held for Daniel Reiter, a former Texas State philosophy student who passed away in June.

On Oct. 16 at 12:00 p.m. the Philosophy Dialogue Series will host “Thirty Years of Philosophy at Texas State,” a reception. At 12:30 p.m., a dialogue entitled “What is Philosophy and Why Study it?” will be present by the Sophists and Sages, the Philosophy Honor Society, and students and faculty.

Sophists and Sages students Jason Baker and Coda Rayo will present “Philosophers of the Future,” on Oct. 18 at 12:30 p.m. At 3:30 p.m. the philosophy students and faculty will present “Applied Philosophy and the Next 30 Years.”

On Oct. 19 at 12 p.m. the series will present “Return of the Philosophy Alumni,” presented by Texas State philosophy alumni.

Co-sponsors of the Philosophy Dialogue Series are the American Democracy Project, Anthem Foundation for Objectivist Scholarship, College of Liberal Arts, Common Experience, New York Times, Phi Sigma Tau, University Seminar, Vice President of Academic Affairs, Vice President Student Affairs and the Gina Weatherhead Dialogue Fund.
