Political activist Jose Angel Gutierrez will deliver the keynote address at the Latino Student Association VIP Leadership Dinner 7 p.m. Sept. 25 in the LBJ Student Center Ballroom at Texas State University-San Marcos.

The dinner is part of Hispanic Heritage Month observations on campus.

“Dr. Gutierrez is a Hispanic political activist and the founder of the Raza Unida political party,” said Hispanic Heritage Month committee chair Erica Rodriguez. “He is also the founder of numerous grass roots organizations that promote education within the Hispanic Community.”

Gutierrez is an experienced speaker and a pivotal figure in the Chicano civil rights movements.

“I encourage everyone to attend this event,” Rodriguez said.  “Our theme this year is ‘People Without Borders’ and everyone from all backgrounds is encouraged to attend. This event will be informative and educational and I think attendees will learn a lot about the history of the Mexican American civil rights movement during the 1970s.”
