Texas State University-San Marcos’ student-run public relations agency Bobcat Promotions has received a Bronze Quill Award of Merit for its “Trap the Grease – Atrapa la Grasa” campaign.

The Bronze Quill Best of Austin 2007 award ceremony was held Tuesday, June 5 at the Headliners’ Club in Austin, where professional communicators and students united to recognize excellence in business communications. The International Association of Business Communicators sponsored and judged the event.  The panel selected Bobcat Promotion’s for the Strategic/Community Relations Programs and Public Service Communication category.

Last year Bobcat Promotions teamed with the City of Austin’s water utility to stop sewage system overflows, a problem caused by dumping animal fat and grease down city drains.  During a six-week period, between Nov. and Dec., Bobcat Promotions conducted an innovative campaign to educate their target audience by distributing grease trapping canisters, gaining media coverage, and by conducting on-site awareness activities.

Julayne Ortiz, former Bobcat Promotions executive director, said she is proud to have been a member of Bobcat Promotions, and that this will be the first of many awards they are bound to receive in the near future.

“It was an honor to be recognized for our work in a room full of esteemed business communicators,” Ortiz said.  “Creating this campaign took a great deal of hard work and perseverance, but it was all worth it because we had the opportunity to work for a great client, and to help significantly reduce sewage system overflows.”
