AUSTIN-Jeanne D. Carpenter has been named associate vice president for student affairs at The University of Texas at Austin.

Carpenter has served as interim associate vice president since Sept. 1 and is replacing Dr. David Drum, who resigned in August to return to teaching in the Department of Educational Psychology.

Dr. Juan C. González, vice president for student affairs, said Carpenter will continue to be director of University Health Services and oversee the Counseling and Mental Health Center, the UT Learning Center and the Career Exploration Center.

"Jeanne's experience and role in providing quality health and counseling services to our students is outstanding," said González. "We are very fortunate to have her as a part of our leadership team. She is well respected in the community and in her profession."

Carpenter has served in a number of capacities at University Health Services since 1974 and has been director since 1997.  She earned her master's degree in Health Professions in 1980 from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University-San Marcos).
