Texas State University-San Marcos history professor and songwriter Gregg Andrews will perform on Brigitte London’s “Spirit of the Outlaws All-Star Showdown” held at the legendary Douglas Corner Café in Nashville, Tenn., April 5.

The “Spirit of the Outlaws” showdown is a monthly show that features up and coming artists whose music embodies the outlaw spirit associated with artists such as Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Jessi Colter, Merle Haggard and Kris Kristofferson.  Andrews will perform two of his songs and three songs recorded by the aforementioned artists. He will be accompanied by former members of Waylon Jennings’s band.

Known as Doctor G in the music scene, Andrews has performed in the Austin-San Marcos-San Antonio and Hill Country region as a solo artist or with the Doctor G and the Mudcats band. He describes his music style as “swampytonk,” a combination of swampy blues and hard-driving Texas honkytonk.  Andrews recorded a CD titled “Mudcats,” which was produced by Kent Finlay at Cheatham St. Warehouse and engineered, mixed and mastered by Gary Hickinbotham of the university’s Firestation Studio. “Mudcats” did well on the Americana Music Association and Roots Country and Blues charts and it received attention in Europe and Australia.
