Texas State Hispanic Business Students Association named chapter of the year

The Hispanic Business Students Association chapter at Texas State University-San Marcos has been named National Chapter of the Year by the National Hispanic Business Association.
The Texas State chapter was recognized for its exemplary student leadership and local commitment to the San Marcos community, education and professionalism of its members during the NHBA’s 17th Annual Leadership Conference in Los Angeles on Nov. 6, 2006. During its annual awards ceremony, Texas State University Hispanic Business Students Association The award comes along with a one thousand dollar prize to be used toward this year’s conference to be held in Chicago, IL on November 1-3. Abel Orta, now Texas State Alumni, won representative of the year- Southern region 2006-2007.
More than 600 Hispanic students from over 47 universities across the nation attended the three-day leadership conference. “Our conference provides undergraduate attendees with a unique opportunity to network and meet with corporate representatives, while building relationships with established Hispanic Leaders.” This past year’s event was held at the Radisson LAX in Los Angeles California and was hosted by California State University Northridge Latino Business Association. The conference provides opportunities for students to network in a series of career enhancing activities and to learn essential information needed to launch a successful professional career. A series of workshops were facilitated by corporate representatives and motivational speakers.
HBSA was founded in 1994 at Texas State with the goal to encourage the advancement of Hispanic college students in the business world. HBSA is open to students of all ethnicities, majors and classifications. HBSA has recently created the first high school chapter in San Marcos High School, in effort to build leadership skills and motivate the students to continue their education into college.
