Date of Release: 06/29/2006

ROUND ROCK — The Texas State Small Business Development Center (Texas State SBDC), a program of the McCoy College of Business Administration at Texas State University-San Marcos and the Texas Association of Public Purchasers, will host its inaugural Central Texas Business Procurement Conference & Exposition Aug. 1 at the Wingate Inn’s Williamson Conference Center in Round Rock.

Congressman John R. Carter will serve as the luncheon keynote speaker.
This conference will include a Business Expo, a forum providing access to multi-million dollar government and private sector markets in potential subcontracting opportunities in 2006 as well as the opportunity to schedule one-on-one meetings with procurement representatives from government and private sector prime contractors.

“Small businesses are the engine that drives the U.S. economy and we want to provide them with every opportunity to grow and increase productivity,” said Larry P. Lucero, Director of the Texas State SBDC. “This conference will allow small businesses in our area of Texas to learn about government and private sector contracting rules, procedures and opportunities so that they can access the multi-million dollar contracting market.”

Sponsors include Wells Fargo Bank, Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Brown McCarroll LLP, Iron Mountain, Staples Business Advantage, Frost National Bank and the Steam Team. Committed exhibitors include NASA, Walmart, the Lone Star Chapter of the National Contract Management Association, Chase Bank, University of Texas at Austin, University of Texas Systems, Texas State University, General Service Administration and Texas Department of Transportation.

Federal and state government purchasers procure billions of dollars in goods and services annually. The first Central Texas Business Procurement Conference will provide small businesses, including small disadvantaged businesses, women-owned, 8(A), HUB-certified, and veteran-owned businesses, access to government and private sector contracting opportunities. This conference will include a business exposition where small businesses can showcase their products and services to government and business attendees, as well as attend training sessions with prominent government, corporate, and business leaders.
