Pianist John Salmon headlines Hill Country Artist Series

SAN MARCOS—The Texas State University-San Marcos School of Music presents jazz pianist John Salmon as part of the Hill Country Artist Series at 7:30 p.m. March 24.

Salmon will perform “The Music of Dave Brubeck” at the Hays CISD Performing Arts Center in Kyle. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for students and senior citizens over 65.

John Salmon sitting next to an acoustic guitar Salmon, widely recognized as the foremost authority on the music of the great jazz innovator Dave Brubeck, is a frequent guest performer at festivals across the U.S. and Europe. He has performed at the Spoleto Festival in South Carolina, the Festival International de Musica del Mediterraneo in Spain, the International Bartok Festival in Hungary and similar festivals in Oregon, Michigan and Idaho.

Salmon has recorded two CDs of Brubeck’s classical piano music, Dave Brubeck Compositions for Piano, and Chromatic Fantasy Sonata/Rising Sun.

Salmon has distinguished himself as both a classical and jazz artist. Critics from Spain, Germany, Switzerland and the U.S. have praised both his versatility and virtuosity. His performances have been broadcast on the national radio stations of Hungary, Canada, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, the Ukraine, Moldova and the U.S. He has been a member of the music faculty at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro since 1989.
