Of Hate and Redemption: A Common Experience in the Arts

SAN MARCOS— The first year Common Experience program at Texas State University-San Marcos presents "Of Hate and Redemption: A Common Experience in the Arts," an evening of music, dance and dramatic readings featuring original musical compositions, Sunday, Feb. 27, at 7:30 p.m., in Evans Auditorium.
The event is sponsored by the University Honors Program, the National Endowment for the Humanities Distinguished Teaching Professorship in the Humanities, and the Texas State School of Music.
In "Of Hate and Redemption" artists will raise their voices, literally and figuratively, in response to this theme and the related theme of redemption. Program participants include Austin Symphony Orchestra conductor Peter Bay and members of the ASO, dramatic reader Richard Cheatham, soprano Mela Dailey, choral conductor Craig Hella Johnson and the Conspirare Choir, Juilliard composer Wayne Oquin, choreographer LeAnne Stedman and composer Joseph Steussy.
Academic year 2004-05 has been the inaugural year of the Common Experience, a series of campus-wide events on the theme of hatred. "Of Hate and Redemption: A Common Experience in the Arts" will be free to all university students and open to the public at $10 per ticket for non-student adults.
