Rowe, Smith named interim vice presidents at Texas State

SAN MARCOS —Texas State University-San Marcos has named Joanne Smith Interim Vice President for Student Affairs and T. Cay Rowe Interim Vice President for University Advancement.

Rowe takes over for the departing Gerald Hill, who resigned his position to join the Seton Healthcare Network in Austin. Smith replaces Jim Studer, who became special assistant to Texas State President Denise Trauth in early January, providing leadership in enrollment management areas and athletics.

Smith has served as associate vice president for Student Affairs since 2000, and prior to that, served as Director of Residence Life since 1992. She earned her undergraduate and Master’s degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and Wichita State, respectively, and holds a doctorate in Student Personnel Administration from Kansas State University.

Rowe has served as assistant vice president for University Advancement since 2004, joining the university in 1988 as Director of University Relations before becoming Director of Media Relations and Publications in 1994. She earned her BA in journalism from the University of North Texas and her Master’s degree from Texas Christian University.
